What is a CV?

CV is the most flexible and most appropriate way of an application. It summarizes your data in a way that you are presented in the best light possible and can be used for many applications at the same time.

CV or otherwise called your curriculum or resume are the means through which you can make your self-promotion.

The goal is to convince the director or human resources specialist to invite you for an interview where you can show more specifically your skills and personality. Therefore, when you write your CV, do not rush, but put yourself in the decision-making position , would you consider for interview somebody who had prepared and presented a CV in such a careless and imprudent manner?

How to write a CV (Curriculum Vitae) - CV serves to make your presentation before a person you do not know and who has very little time to get to know you. It must present you in the best view possible, so concise and well structured. There are many ways to write a CV, however, there are always few main lines. A CV meant for business purposes, should not exceed one A4 page format. While a CV for academic purposes may exceed this limit, including conferences, publications and other activities that you may have performed. If you are applying for more than one job, you must have different types of CV under different career fields, highlighting your skills and different experiences tailored by subject.

For students who have just finished, it is advisable to start their CV with academic background. It is very likely that at that age, education is their most important asset. Also, it is advisable to make the order from the last experience . If you have special achievements, then they should appear in the CV, and the title of the dissertation or date of graduation if you think are important and help strengthen your profile, should be written in CV. Beware, if you provide specific results or achievements, always put real information, because the relevant documents may be requested and if you lied your application will lose any credibility.

Prizes/Awards received – if this category applies to you, then it should be placed in your CV immediately after the education section. These may include scholarships, awards in various competitions, and any other distinction.

In this part, as for everything else in your CV, give complete information, such as date, location, name of the organizer, country and the position you've won in; for sscholarships must write period, the University name, department, name of institution that has awarded scholarships, and perhaps some of the main subjects on which your abilities were assessed when the scholarship as issued.

Practical Experience – In this section are included the internships. Do not be shy about what you did; do not reduce your achievements. Nobody expects you to have a great business, if you are still a student. The idea is that when applying for jobs, you should show the growing potential. You should show what you improved, where, to what extent, as well as your assigned responsibilities. It should be sensed a kind of difference between your first and last job; you should show that you are ready to take more responsibility. You must present yourself as a leader, a person with initiative, creativity, etc. Remember, the goal is to convince the one that reads your CV that you are the best choice for the job.

Additional Activities - If you are writing a professional CV, and non-academic one, then this is an opportunity to emphasize conferences, trainings and any additional activities that are relevant to the position for which you are applying. A good description here can help you show the sense of initiative and involvement and not just being a student with good grades.

Languages – List the number of languages you speak, describing each of their level in one word. We suggest you to categorize, also, the level of conversation, which can be average level, advanced and fluent. In your CV, include the language certificates and the dates received, if this is applicable.

Computer skills – Include everything that you know, from the familiarity with online search engines, text editing capabilities, special and more advanced programs, programming etc. If you have a certificate or diploma, it gives you the advantage and should not be missing in your CV.

Hobbies - Involve them, if any space remained on your CV. Hobbies show that do other things in your life, except work and school. Therefore they cannot be seen otherwise than positively.

In your CV can be included other subcategories that you think they might highlight your skills. Very often, there can be found the reference section, but this depends on the requirements of the employer. If the employer does not require references, it is not necessary to put them. The employers that really want to get references for you will ask for them.

Do not include false information, do not extend the unproductive details, a CV should be as concise as possible.
