The British Embassy in Pristina, Kosovo, is part of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office’s (FCDO) world-wide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit two (2) full-time interns. This is a brand new opportunity for high-caliber recent graduates with an interest in gaining work experience in a field related to the Embassy's activities, such as politics, business, security, trade, culture, communications, administration and more. Benefiting from working in a medium sized Embassy, interns have the possibility to interact closely with senior management to help develop UK government policy towards Kosovo.
The internship programme will last 6 months, with a possibility to extend up to 12 months. A tailored programme will be designed for the interns to ensure their experience at Post captures work across different sections of the Embassy. Interns will be encouraged to work in a variety of areas to grow and develop their knowledge skills. Interns will have the unique possibility to:
• Work with different professionals at the British Embassy in Pristina – a rare opportunity to learn about the work of the UK in Kosovo, making use of personal development opportunities and benefitting from competitive terms and benefits.
• Study for a City & Guilds Qualification by attending the FCDO International Academy’s Foundation Level learning programme which covers the core knowledge that is relevant for everyone working on international issues on behalf of the UK. Successful completion of a module results in a digital badge from City & Guilds which can be used internally and externally (e.g. email signatures and on LinkedIn).
• Spend time shadowing the Ambassador, Deputy Ambassador and other members of the Embassy;
• Benefit from coaching and mentoring from experienced and valued country-based and UK based staff members and,
• Make use of our online learning portfolio on different areas such as: programme delivery, corporate skills, international capability, leadership and management skills and more.
This role will require a person who is well organized, innovative, flexible and with a ‘can do’ attitude.

Roles and responsibilities:
• Assist and contribute to the team by performing general office tasks, preparing reports and presentations etc (using MS Office Suite tools).
• Provide staff support related to projects within their work area.
• Learn the ins-and-outs of our daily routines and procedures.
• Participate in professional development and take on new responsibilities.
• Contribute positively to the Embassy including with new ideas.
• Other tasks as assigned by the head of section.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
- University degree;
- Fluency in written and spoken English and one of the national languages of Kosovo;
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Good communication skills;
- IT proficiency;
- Ability to work flexibly;
- Resilience.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
- Have interest and/or qualifications related to cultural cooperation, trade, foreign or security policy.

The probation period for this role is 1 month. The contract is six months, with a possibility of extension to 1 year.
Interns recruited locally by the British Embassy in Pristina are subject to the Embassy’s Internship Policy, and will be treated following the best practices of local labour law (current Country Based Staff Terms and Conditions, where applicable) as interpreted by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
All applicants must be legally able to work in the country of application with the correct visa/status or work permit.
Employees who are not eligible to pay local income tax: e.g. certain third-country nationals and spouses/partners of UK diplomats will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
The successful applicants will need to achieve a level of security vetting applicable to the role. Candidates that are not able to do so will not be able to take up post.
