JOB TITLE: Driver / Translator

LOCATION: Gjakova

TIME: Full-time

REPORTING TO: Operations Manager

MAIN DESCRIPTION

The Driver / Translator is responsible for translation and interpretation duties from English to Albanian and vice versa, acting as the voice of the management team during daily field visits, as well as when speaking with large audiences and high-priority guests. They are also responsible for driving HALO vehicles, where and when necessary. When not fulfilling these duties, they are responsible for assisting the various HALO HQ departments, including logistics, fleet, finance, operations, as well as other office assistance as necessary.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Driver / Translator is responsible for:

  • Interpreting for the management team during field visits, training courses, and other events, as well as for other staff as necessary.
  • Translating key programme documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures, Training Management Packages, Clearance Plans, Staff Memos, as well as other documentation as required.
  • Driving duties for the Programme Manager, Operations Manager, Operations Officer, and other members of staff as required.
  • Inspecting, maintaining, and operating the vehicle safely, in accordance with HALO SOPs and all traffic laws in Kosovo, reporting all vehicle faults to the Head Mechanic in a timely fashion.
  • Supporting other HQ departments (Logistics, Fleet, Finance, Training, etc.) as required.
  • Performing any other duties assigned by Senior Management, as required.
  • Maintaining professional standards of preventability, punctuality and discipline.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Full professional proficiency in English and Albanian
  • Strong communication and inter-personal skills
  • Valid Driving License, with ability to and proven experience of driving off-road
  • Good knowledge of Kosovo’s territory and traffic laws
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and participate in evening and weekend events
  • Highly organized, and able to manage their time effectively while supporting multiple departments.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Prior experience of working in Humanitarian Mine Action desirable
  • Prior experience of working with Non-Governmental Organizations desirable
  • Good command of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Prior experience of translating in a professional environment
  • Prior experience of interpreting in a professional environment
