USAID Kosovo Compete Activity
STATEMENT OF WORK
Description of Project:
USAID has awarded DT Global a five-year contract to facilitate the private sector’s improved competitiveness in local, regional, and global markets. Through USAID Compete Activity, DT Global supports increased sector competitiveness by empowering firms, organizations, and institutions to improve market systems. USAID Compete focuses on three key export-oriented sectors of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT), wood processing (including the subsector of modular-homes manufacturers), and food processing, to sustainably increase their competitiveness. By addressing constraints across the market systems, USAID Compete seeks to facilitate scalable and systemic change, stimulating job creation and the private sector’s increased ability to engage in local, regional, and international markets. The expected results of USAID Compete across all three sectors are: 1) market systems are strengthened to increase sector competitiveness; and 2) market actors within those systems are more productive and competitive.
Background of the assignment:
Due to limited international exposure and the utilization of internally developed sales processes, entering a developed and competitive market, for example the Switzerland market, poses numerous challenges to the Kosovo companies. These challenges include local market dynamics, differences in business practices, knowledge of the legislation and administrative procedures, and a reliable network and clientele base. While individual ICT companies have independently achieved success in obtaining international projects, companies could obtain higher valued, more sophisticated international projects if they were to penetrate the international markets directly. The costs associated with penetrating international markets are prohibitive for individual companies and there has been a lack of coordinated efforts to collectively address and capitalize on new markets. To tackle these challenges, a group of ICT companies, including Kutia, Linkplus, Incodeks, Tenton, Trudo, Devstack and Appbites, seek to join forces and establish a joint venture to consolidate resources, expertise, and networking capabilities, to create a robust business platform for entering the Swiss market under a unified brand and service portfolio, enhancing competitiveness of these entities in a new market. USAID Kosovo Compete Activity is seeking the engagement of a Business Legal Expert (also known as a Corporate Legal Expert or Commercial Legal Expert) to support this group to consolidate, establish rules of collaboration, and lay the groundwork of corporate governance of the joint venture.
