Practice Accountant

About the Role:

As a key member of our finance team, you will manage the full accounting cycle for a portfolio of SME clients. Your expertise in bookkeeping, reconciliations, and financial reporting will ensure accuracy and compliance, while your communication skills will help clients understand their financial position clearly. You’ll also support junior staff by mentoring them on technical accounting tasks and contribute to ongoing process improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Full-cycle bookkeeping: Maintain accurate records, process transactions, and perform detailed reconciliations across multiple client accounts.
• Financial reporting: Prepare annual financial statements, management accounts, and VAT returns in line with accounting standards.
• Software mastery: you will be required to use multiple accounting software packages such as Sage 50, QuickBooks, and Xero for bookkeeping, reconciliations, VAT returns, and payroll processing.
• Manage deadlines effectively in a busy practice environment with multiple client portfolios. Have experience in setting, maintaining and adhering to time budgets

Requirements:

• Minimum 5 years of relevant book keeping experience, with strong technical bookkeeping and reconciliation skills.
• Very Strong account reconciliation experience particularly in the area of bank, accounts payable and accounts receivable
• Proficiency in Sage 50, QuickBooks, and Xero accounting software or similar
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical accounting tasks clearly to clients and team members.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving mindset.
• Commitment to professional integrity, confidentiality, and high ethical standards.
• Excellent Excel skills

Desirable:

• Experience working in a practice environment with SME clients.
• Familiarity with cloud-based accounting tools and digital process improvements.
